Impact of Armed Conflict, Prolonged Violence, and Natural Disasters on Health
Armed conflict, prolonged violence, and natural disasters (e.g., earthquakes, floods, hurricanes) have severe, well-documented effects on mental and physical health. These crises lead to high rates of PTSD, depression, and anxiety, exacerbated by disrupted healthcare systems, displacement, and the destruction of infrastructure. In natural disasters, survivors often face acute trauma, grief, and resource scarcity, compounding existing vulnerabilities in conflict-affected regions.
Our Integrated Response Strategy
To address these challenges, our strategy implements scalable, evidence-based mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) programs in low-resource, conflict-affected, and disaster-prone areas. Key components include:
- Trauma-Informed Care: Tailored interventions for survivors of both violence and disasters, addressing compound trauma.
- Local Capacity Building: Training community health workers and first responders to deliver psychological first aid (PFA) and long-term support.
- Integrated Recovery: Linking MHPSS with socioeconomic recovery (e.g., livelihoods, shelter) to restore stability post-crisis.
- Adaptive Monitoring: Using real-time data tools to assess needs after sudden-onset disasters or protracted conflicts.
Long-Term Goals
- Resilience: Strengthen community coping mechanisms for recurring shocks (e.g., climate-related disasters, cyclical violence).
- Research: Contribute to global evidence on effective humanitarian-mental health interventions across diverse crises.
By addressing the intersection of conflict, disasters, and health, we aim to mitigate suffering while fostering sustainable recovery.

My goal? To ensure anyone, anywhere can access life-saving resources—anytime, offline. By bridging the gap between tech and accessibility, we can revolutionize crisis response and leave no one behind.
